Background

We are a small congregation of the Uniting Church, based in Picton NSW. We offer a mix of traditional worship, with a faith that is engaged in current issues and seeks to find ways of living out our faith in the modern world. We have a range of ages and views, and are accepting of all people.

What to expect on Sunday Morning

Each Sunday we run a combined service with Tahmoor Uniting Church. On the 1st and 3rd Sundays of each month, the two congregations worship at Picton Uniting Church. On the 2nd and 4th Sundays of the month we worship together at Tahmoor Uniting Church. All services begin at 9:15 am. Our church has a relaxed and friendly atmosphere, so make yourself at home.

Here's a helpful list of what you can expect to experience when you visit on Sunday morning from when you arrive, getting around the church, following along in worship, and the all-important morning tea after the service.

Parking

Parking is usually available along Lumsdaine street

Entrance

When you enter the church for worship, you'll enter the older of the two buildings and see people milling about. Feel free to have a chat to those around you, or grab a seat.

Worship Services

Worship happens in the main section of the church. Our services include music, readings from the Bible and a message from one of our preachers. Everything you need to follow along with the worship services is either printed or projected on the large screen at the front.

Communion

We have Communion on the first Sunday of each month and everyone is welcome to receive and participate in Communion as they feel comfortable.

Kids Church and Young Adults

For kids in pre-school or primary school we can provide a Kids Church program, and for those in high school we can run a youth group. Both programs begin in the church service with the rest of the congregation, then go out for some activities during the second part of the service. In Kids Church children participate in singing, stories, craft and games. Our Youth Group centres more around activities and discussions, and occasionally preparing for leadership of special services. Kids Church and Youth Group both run during Public School terms...but only if there are enough participants, so please, come along!

Picton Uniting is a child and pet friendly church. Please don’t feel uncomfortable at any noise or exploring that your kids may want to do. We provide toys and colouring-in at the back of the church for families to use.

Music

Music is a mix of genres, provided by piano, violin and sometimes guitars, as well as some good singers! We usually stand and sing about 3 songs throughout the service, all the lyrics provided for you.

Collection

Individual Churches are accountable for maintenance and upkeep of buildings and employing Pastors/Ministers. Along with fundraising, the collection helps with these kinds of costs. Please do not feel obliged to contribute, however, we welcome any donation you feel you'd like to make. Many in our congregation choose to give online.

After the service

We'd love you to stay around after the service and share coffee and a chat with us in the hall. If you're new to Church make yourself known to our welcomers (you would have seen them at the beginning of the service) and we would love to give you more information about our Church.

Other Activities

From the 25th of October 2018, the Picton Fabric and Fibre Group will be meeting on Thursday mornings during the school term for crafty activities such as knitting, sewing and crochet. Head to the Fabric and Fibre Group page to find out more.
